I.X.L. is a town in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma. It is geographically very close to the most famous of the all-black towns, Boley, Oklahoma.
I.X.L. was incorporated in 2001, making it the most recently incorporated of the black towns, even though it dates back about 100 years. The 2010 census listed the population at 51. It is said to have been named using the letters from the names of two men. But some historians and residents say the town’s name comes from a positive affirmation repeated through schoolchildren saying: “I excel.”
